Transmission Coolers & Cooling Systems

Transmission overheating is one of the most common causes of premature transmission failure. The risk is highest when towing, running vehicles commercially, or driving anything performance-upgraded.

Most factory automatic transmissions cool their fluid through a heat exchanger built into the radiator. If that heat exchanger fails internally, coolant and transmission fluid can mix, contaminating the transmission and, in most cases, meaning it needs to be fully reconditioned. We fit auxiliary transmission coolers that run independently of the factory unit and bypass the radiator altogether, removing that contamination risk while adding extra cooling capacity.

As a wholesale supplier of automotive parts, we can fit most types of pre-fabricated transmission coolers, from mild upgrades through to heavy-duty kits for towing, off-road and commercial vehicles:

  • Ford F250 and F-Series: Mishimoto heavy-duty aluminium transmission coolers, built for the extra load, towing and heat these trucks put through their transmission.
  • Most other makes and models: a purpose-built cooler kit sourced through our wholesale parts network.
  • Cooler lines and thermostatic bypass valves to keep the transmission at the right operating temperature and keep coolant and transmission fluid completely separate.
  • Transmission temperature gauges so you can keep an eye on things and catch a problem early, well before it becomes an expensive repair.

Differentials

Our workshop has the latest equipment and expertly trained staff to handle most types of differentials. We service open, clutch-type limited slip and torsen differentials, so whether your vehicle is front or rear drive, AWD or 4WD, its differential will get problem-specific servicing at Automac.

The differential splits the engine’s torque two ways, allowing each wheel to spin at a different speed. Each wheel needs a different amount of torque when turning, driving in wet and slippery conditions, or off road. Differentials use gears, clutches and fluid to send the right amount of force to each wheel, minimising loss of traction and wheel spin.

Keeping your differentials in good condition is important for safe, smooth driving. Problems usually come from wear and tear. Tell-tale signs include howling or whining during acceleration, rumbling or rattling, clunking or banging, or vibration that worsens as you accelerate. If you notice any of these, bring your vehicle in to Automac and we’ll inspect it for you.
