Love your 70 Series but tired of the clutch in city traffic, on the beach or behind a heavy trailer? Automac converts 76, 78 and 79 Series LandCruisers from manual to a genuine Toyota 6-speed automatic. We keep the conversion kits in stock at our workshop and have already completed these conversions for WA customers, so you’re not waiting on parts or paying for someone to learn on your vehicle.
What the conversion involves
The conversion suits 70 Series LandCruisers with the 1VD-FTV 4.5L V8 turbo diesel. We remove the factory manual gearbox and fit a genuine Toyota AB60 6-speed automatic, the same heavy-duty transmission used behind the V8 in the 200 Series LandCruiser.
- Genuine Toyota 6-speed automatic – built for the torque of the V8 diesel and for towing, with a taller top gear that brings highway cruising revs down noticeably.
- Bolts to your existing transfer case – a CNC-machined billet adaptor housing mates the auto to the factory transfer case, so there’s no cutting of the chassis and no changes to your driveline.
- Dedicated transmission controller – with a manual/sports shift mode that also works in low range, plus a display showing gear position and transmission data. No laptop tuning needed.
- Driver-controlled converter lockup – lock the torque converter at the push of a button to keep fluid temperatures down when towing and to get proper engine braking on steep descents.
- Heavy-duty transmission cooling – a genuine Toyota oil cooler with custom mounting, sized for Australian conditions and heavy loads.
- Factory-look centre console – houses the genuine Toyota shifter, with cup holders, phone storage, 12V and USB outlets.
- Optional extras – electronic cruise control, sound deadening and interior trim upgrades can be added while the vehicle is in.
